Overall, life has been good to me. My husband, Frank, and I have been married for forty-four years. During this time, we raised three children, a daughter and twin sons, and now enjoy our six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. We have had many wonderful opportunities to travel and also have shared many other common interests.
My career life has been varied and interesting, and I am fortunate to have been able to pursue work that I have truly loved and enjoyed. I owned and operated my own ballet school for twenty-two years, managed customer service departments for dancewear and lamp manufacturers, and taught fourth and/or fifth grade at Peirce School in Chicago for eleven years. During this time, I returned to school at the age of thirty-nine, and ultimately earned BA and MLS degrees from Mundelein College and an MAT degree from National Louis University. I retired from teaching at the end of the 2004 school year and now am busy enjoying the many activities I didn't have time for while I was working. I have maintained my interest in the arts and regularly attend symphony, theater, opera, and ballet performances. In addition, I usually see two or three movies a month. I belong to a book club and also participate in a senior program at the neighborhood gym. I am an avid gardener and spend many hours working outdoors. I still knit and crochet and enjoy making things for the grandchildren. I have been so busy since I retired that I sometimes wonder how I ever found time to work. At one time, my husband and I would have enjoyed sharing in most of these activities. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease six years ago so this no longer is possible. I am grateful to be able to care for him at home with the help of a wonderful caregiver. While he has little or no recall of our life together, I feel blessed to have so many special memories to cherish. |
