I live in Skokie with my husband, Neil, and we are both committed 'Chicago-philes'.
Staying in the area after graduation, I received a bachelor degree from Northwestern and a masters from the University of Chicago. I taught first grade for six years at Sharp Corners in Skokie (and loved it). Then my husband and I emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio, for three short years--coming right back to Skokie with my husband's license to practice pediatrics and two healthy baby girls, Marilee and Rosy. When the girls were in school, I went back to teaching--ESL. First I taught students from Russia and Israel, followed by twenty-two years in a Japanese school for children of businessmen in the U.S. for three-to-four years. And so, without leaving Chicago, I have managed to experience very different cultures and consider myself very fortunate. Incidentally, our daughters are both psychologists--and are still trying to figure us out. (Seeking to keep Chicago in the center of things, one daughter lives in Washington, D.C. and the other in Oakland, CA, with her Danish husband and baby girl.) A couple of years ago my husband and I discovered a totally different way of life, called 'retirement'--which required about two minutes of adjustment. My interests include reading, hiking, and travelling. And I'm an idealistic news-junkie. (Oxymoron?!) |
