I started NU in the spring of 1955 along with a number of Senn graduates and graduated as a mechanical engineer in June of 1960. Along the way I was a co-op at Argonne. In the fall of 1960 I went to MIT on a National Science Foundation fellowship and finished up in June of 1963 with 3 more degrees. Then went to work in S. Calif at aerospace firm Autonetics.

In Feb of 1965, I returned to the midwest to teach at the Automatic Control Center at Purdue Univ. In the summer of 1966, '67, and '69 I taught control systems courses to junior faculty at summer institutes in India. Coming home in 1966, I stopped over to visit my mom in Addis Ababa (she was there in the Peace Corps).

In 1967, I met Thyra in Boston. On my way home from India in July 1969, we met in Istanbul and took the Orient Express through Sofia and Belgrade to Venice. Then back through Milan to Zurich where she was finishing up at the ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology). In December of 1969 we were married in Challex, France.

For the next 19 years I worked as a computer programming consultant. In the late 1980's and early '90s, I worked for a couple of firms and then became Vice President of Engineering for Fastparts.com A year after that, I retired and now help to keep the wheels running while Thyra advances in her career. (See Business Week, March 21, 2005 issue, page 107). All this time we lived in Chicago, had a son Alexander and enjoyed the change of seasons.

We traveled a lot to Switzerland (Thyra's brother and sister-in-law, and Alex), and France (Thyra's parents). Outside of family destinations, we went to Senegal in 1999, I went to China and India in 1984 and Thyra went to Indonesia and China in 1987. I also went to S. America in 1991 - cashing in a friend's frequent flyer miles on Pan Am. We got back home 3 wks before they went bust.

The last year and a half we had Thyra's father with us and my mom is an elevator ride away (she is 96 now), so our travel has been less frequent.

Looking forward to the 70th Senn reunion
